'X-Men: Apocalypse' Release Date, Cast, Rumors & Spoilers: Raven Near-Death In The Biggest, Darkest 'X-Men' [WATCH]

A few things are known this far about the much-awaited follow up to "X-Men: Days of Future Past." First, "X-Men: Apocalypse" is going to be very huge. Second, this "X-Men" is going to be very dark. Much of these are owed to the blue-skinned villain Apocalypse who makes a bid for the annihilation of mankind and mutantkind with the help of a select few mutants.

Games Radar reported that "X-Men: Apocalypse" writer Simon Kinberg described Apocalypse in a recent Q&A. "This is a character who is way more powerful than any of the characters we've ever seen in the franchise," Kinberg stated. "He's more interested in the sort of survival of the fittest; the strongest, no matter what they may be, surviving and making essentially a better world."

Fittingly, Kinberg also declares this to be the biggest among the "X-Men" films including "X-Men: First Class" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" of the trilogy.

Digital Spy revealed just how dark "X-Men: Apocalypse" is going to be relating that a visit to the set while the cast filmed gave a glimpse of Charles Xavier James McAvoy being directed to cry copious tears. In the scene with McAvoy was Sophie Turner who plays Jean Grey. Does this have anything to do with the supposed inclusion of the "Dark Phoenix Saga?"

"It's the end of three stories, and Raven is on the verge of death," McAvoy expressed. "But for me, I see Jennifer [Lawrence] on the verge of death. And I've known Jennifer and Raven for five years now, and I love them both."

McAvoy also revealed a few other turns that the "X-Men: Apocalypse" plot will take for Quicksilver, Peter Maximoff played by Evan Peters and Michael Fassbender's Magneto.

"Peter is on the verge of torture and death, and I feel that too. Erik and Michael, they're on the edge of this pivotal moment in their life, and I feel all this." McAvoy shares. Earlier reports supposed that "X-Men: Apocalypse" is what will finally cause Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr's friendship to end.

"We've never done one of these movies where the whole world ... there's like an extinction-level threat to the world. The whole world's at stake," Kinberg said. "And I think it's the biggest emotionally, too, partly because the situation is so heightened, the dynamic between the main characters is as heightened and intense as it's ever been."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is directed by Bryan Singer and stars Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Jennifer Lawrence (Raven), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) , Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Evan Peters (Quicksilver), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) and Olivia Munn (Psylocke). Release to UK theaters is scheduled on May 19 and to US theaters on May 26.
