Betting World Goes Bonkers Over Royal Baby Name, People Choose ‘George’ as their Favourite

Now that the royal baby has arrived, it is time for the Windsor family to choose an apt name for the new member.

And this might take some time. It can take a month as was the case with Prince Charles or one week , the time taken to name Prince William or just a day like Prince Harry. A statement issued by Kensington Palace said the name would be announced in "due course."

But the betting world is doing its job in predicting possible names for the baby. Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William welcomed their first baby, a son, Monday. The name George is a favourite among the betters with the odds of 6/4, says Rory Scott, Paddy Power spokesman. He says that it is followed by James (11/4), Alexander (7/2) and Louis (8/1), reports  the Daily Telegraph.

An online survey of over 1500 people done by News Corporation Australia says that top five names that the royal would get are George and James, followed by Richard, Philip and Alexander.

The royals generally prefer to choose historical names for their children. And George has remained popular throughout the time. The first King George of Great Britain ascended to the throne in 1714. Since then, there have been six King Georges.

According to tradition, the name of the baby should signify the continuity of the monarchy. The Telegraph reported that the first name of the last King George - George VI - was in fact Albert and the family called him Bertie. He then selected George - his fourth name - for his name as Sovereign, which is also the Prince of Wales's fourth name.
