Mother Suffers Hiccups After Getting Pregnant; Cause Still Unknown After 8 Years

Usually, hiccups are experienced only for a few minutes but in the case of Lisa Graves, she has been letting out this dinosaur-like sound for almost 8 years. She already visited a count of specialists but the doctors do not have any idea what caused it.

Hiccups are involuntary contractions of the diaphragmatic muscle which are usually brief in duration according to EMedicine Health. The cause is frequently associated to the irritation of the nerves that are found on the neck and extended to the chest. This condition is rarely a cause of concern. But if it is already suffered by someone in a long period of time, then, it's definitely a different story.

Graves, a mother of two, is really disturbed by hiccups for more than 8 years. She started to experience hiccups early second trimester of her first pregnancy last 2008 as posted in Mail Online. Upon visiting her doctor, she was just informed that the hiccups were only brought by her pregnancy and will just go away later on.

However, even after giving birth, she still experienced the really disturbing hiccups. Her hiccups' sounds are mostly compared to high pitched scream. Hence, she already decided to avoid quiet public places such as movie theaters and romantic restaurants to get rid of being embarrassed.

Not thinking twice, she already tried all the remedies possible just to make the hiccups go away. According to The Sun, she even admitted trying almost all of the old wife tales' interventions including asking people to scare her, drinking water the wrong way and holding her breath for a long period of time. A number of specialists were already consulted by the 27-year-old tattoo artist. She also underwent neurological tests, gastroscopy, MRI and chest X-ray to find the primary cause. Nevertheless, all results came out clear.

On the other hand, Graves claimed that she will not give up searching for the reason why she suffers from hiccups. It is too frustrating for her not knowing why she experiences such involuntary hiccups as she does not want to endure this situation for the rest of her life.
