American Idol Kris Allen Becomes Proud Father of a Baby Boy

Singer Kris Allen and wife Katy O'Connell welcomed their first baby, a son, Tuesday.

The new father shared the news on Twitter. "Happy day!!!! My little stud was born today. Oliver is here people," the American Idol Season 8 winner tweeted.

Allen, 28, married his high school love Katy O'Connell in 2008. They started dating back in Allen's junior year of high school. The 28-year-old singer revealed  the pregnancy news after he met with a car accident. "Thank you, Ford, for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family and the little one we have on the way safe," he tweeted. "Yes, I got in a really bad wreck tonight, and yes, I'm having a lil baby."

Allen also said that he was excited to be a father. "I've always wanted to be a dad," he said during SXSW Festival. "My wife already started buying him clothes like me. He's already got some (fedoras)."

The accident left him with permanent wrist damage. Allen had around three surgeries and said that there was limited movement in his wrist. However, he said he will keep making music.

"I will be fine," he told fans. "After everything is healed I will be able to play guitar. I will be able to play piano. I will be able to throw a baseball with my kid. I will be able to do the things that I love to do. Just not a proper push-up."

Allen is known for his philanthropy work. Before taking part in American Idol, he was actively involved in charity work in several countries. After winning the singing competition he started the "Idol Gives Back" following the Haiti earthquake. His fans enthusiastically contributed to his charity work.
