3 Simple Reasons Not To Jump On The New Vaginal Herb Ball Trend

Herbal medicine can be a good way to treat certain illnesses, but relying on it all the time may not always be the best idea, especially if it involves inserting things where they don't belong. A new health trend for women has been gaining momentum though it may not be for all the good reasons.

The newest feminine health trend is called the vaginal herbal sachets or herb balls, according to the Mirror. If you are wondering what that is, it is literally just that--sachets or balls stuffed with herbs that are slipped inside the vagina.

These sachets or balls claim to cure several illnesses, as well as detox and disinfect the vagina, as mentioned in The Frisky. However, there are risks involved that might leave you sick.

Here are 3 simple reasons why it's not worth using herbal sachets or herb balls.

1.     The womb is not toxic

According to Pop Sugar, the womb works on its own and detoxifies on its own. In fact, gynecologist, Dr. Jen Gunter, wrote a blog post, wherein she explained that there are no such thing as a cleanse or a detox and said that the vagina is a "self-cleaning oven."

2.     They are expensive

One sachet or ball costs about $15 while a pack of 12 costs about $75. For something that is associated with life-threatening risks, it is relatively expensive.

3.     They have to be left in the vagina for 72 hours

To obtain the maximum effects, the sachet or the ball has to be left inside the vagina for three straight days. This duration is much longer than a tampon, which should be changed every 4 to 6 hours due to the risk of getting toxic shock syndrome. TSS is a very dangerous and life-threatening condition caused by bacterial infection.

Keeping the vagina clean and healthy is extremely important but what women should know is that there is no need for a "detox" as it has the ability to take care of itself. Dr. Gunter reminds women that not being cautious about what you insert in the vagina can damage the good bacteria, irritate the vagina's lining, as well as contribute to TSS, which can lead to death.
