The Truth Behind Diapers; The Math Will Surprise You

The moment you knew you are pregnant, the idea of where to grab some money to supply you and your baby's needs would always be wandering around. From food, clothes and most especially the diapers that cost more expensive than you think.

According to Parents, one in every three families needs more diapers than they can afford to buy. Ideas such as choosing between buying some diapers or buying some food for dinner may come to sound like a joke but for other low-income families, this question sometimes lies in front of them.

When you do the math, Huffpost calculated that a year's supply of a baby's diaper would roughly cost around $1,000. It would take almost six percent of a mother's income working for $15,000 annually. On the other hand, families that belong to the bottom earners having $11,253 a year would consume 14 percent of their income for the diapers alone, which would already become too heavy for them to handle.

Additionally, children that belong to the low-income families and are not able to have diapers during the night are really vulnerable to get seriously ill. They may develop urinary tract infections and skin problems due to sitting on wet diapers for the whole night. And if the babies get too sick, mothers tend to skip work making their income lower than expected.

Therefore, H.R.4055 was passed in congress, the Hygiene Assistance for Families of Infants and Toddlers that aims to grant the states to conduct demonstration projects and activities to implement and evaluate strategies to help the families in need to address the diapering supply needs of their children according to Congress.gov. The national diaper need awareness week was also observed, using #DiaperNeed on social media to help address this issue that is often swept away.

This is the reality and you cannot get away from the truth life offers. Someday, it would never be a cliché to ask yourself as a parent if you will buy food or some diapers.
