Alleged 'Social Media Experiment' Sends Teenager to Jail

A 20-year student at Georgia Southern University has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment after posting a violent threat on his Tumblr account.

The student, Caleb Clemmons told reporters from Gawker that he was only making a joke and did not mean any harm.

Clemmons posted that he will shoot up his school, saying "hello. My name is Irenigg and I plan on shooting up Georgia Southern. Pass this around to see the effect it has. To see if I get arrested".

After just a few hours, Clemmons was tracked down and arrested and has been held by the in the Bulloch County Jail since then.

According to the Gawker, Clemmons did not have any weapons in tow and no actual attacks were committed.

The local county decided to set a $20,000 bail for Clemmons release but his family could not afford it.

Clemmons was reported to have told authorities that his Tumblr post was only as experimental literary piece and was part of an art project.

Still, he was charged for making terrorizing threats using the Internet which is punishable by law for up to five years.

Clemmons's mother on the other hand told Gawker.com that her son, Caleb is being abused inside the county jail and they do not have any money to help defend him.

They also expressed their worry that Caleb might spend more than five years in jail because was formerly arrested for fighting with his step-father and marijuana possession.
