According to WebMD, a person who suffers depression are the ones who experienced some very undesirable events in the past. The common experiences of a depressed person are abuse, serious loss, serious illness, and some studies even proved that it is hereditary.

People diagnosed with this mood disorder often gets medical or drug prescriptions that are expensive and some of the prescribed drugs even have bad side effects. There have been many research done about Nutrient Deficiencies that can cause mood disorders.

Here are some nutrient deficiencies that may lead to depression.

  • Iron, Zinc and Folate Deficiency

Fast foods and processed foods are abundant nowadays which lacks these nutrients. Iron and Folate are essential in the production of red blood cells. Lack of Iodine and Selenium causes your thyroid not to work properly. The thyroid gland is responsible for our body's metabolism, growth and development. Lack of these nutrients in the body can also affect our brain's functions which relates to depression.

There are different kinds of amino acids that are needed in the body. Some amino acids speeds up muscle healing and some are needed by our brain to produce neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters control the balance of our emotions and thinking. Lack of amino acids can lead affect mental stability.
