World's First Home Sperm Testing Kit, Swimcount, Launched In UK

A company based in North Wales launched a new product in the U.K. that it is believed to be the world's first home sperm testing kit. And this kit might be the answer for men to save them from the embarrassment of attending a fertility clinic.

JRBiomedical Ltd, based in Llandudno Junction, North Wales is now manufacturing home test kit called SwimCount, which can indicate sperm count and can determine if the user has good swimmer sperms.

Talking about the newly launched product, Dr. John Rees, managing director at JRBiomedical said it was in 2014 when he heard about a Danish biotech developing a new type of male fertility home test. Hence, he got interested and decided to visit Copenhagen last year to see the "truly innovative products."

"Following registration of the product as a medical device we were then appointed by the Danes to launch SwimCount in the U.K.," Dr. Rees shared to the Daily Post. He said that the brand will be rolled out through pharmacies this year.

But for now, men can purchase SwimCount directly from North Wales through the company's website, where users can also get advice on how to properly use the kit and interpret the results.

"The key benefit of SwimCount compared to other tests is that it provides a measure of motile sperm (good swimmers) rather than just a sperm count which can overestimate a man's fertility and provide a false sense of reassurance that all is OK," Dr. Rees further explained about the product.

According to Mail Online, the newly launched product is available for £39.99. Together with the kit is a cup, where users can put the sperm sample. Then, men should use a syringe to put 0.5ml of the sample into the SwimCount device. After thirty minutes, users can see the result if they have good swimmers or they need to see a doctor.
