'Castle' News & Update: Seamus Dever Opens Up About Kevin Ryan, Javier Esposito Spin-Off

It is still unclear whether "Castle" will return to ABC for another season. Currently on season 8, the show's cast member, Seamus Dever, is suggesting a spin-off for two underrated characters on the show - just in case season 9 doesn't come to fruition.

At ABC's winter press tour, president Paul Lee entertained the idea of continuing the series without its leading stars, given that Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion are still going through contract negotiations for the next season.

No one can rein #Castle in.

"We'd love for 'Castle' to keep going for many years to come," Lee said, noting that significant changes can be seen on the show so long as it surpasses the eighth season. "There are a lot of conversations about how we can do that... there's lots of good ideas in there. So I am feeling optimistic that we have a lot of good ideas."

Well's there good hope that the continuation would come in the form of a spin-off for the show's beloved bromance that is Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas).

"I've always thought that Ryan and Esposito would make fantastic spin-off material," Dever exclaimed to E! News. "From the very beginning, Jon Huertas and I have a really good rapport, great dynamic, and we have a lot of fun together.

Dever continued, "Solving crimes together, I mean it's pretty simple. I mean, we're one of the only procedurals on ABC, so it's like hey, you need a procedural? Espo and Ryan, they're going to solve crimes just like they do on 'Castle!'"

Who knew Esposito had it in him?!

The news follows after fans speculated the fate of the show, according to Christian Post. In "Castle" season 8, episode 9, fans were left wondering how the show will go on now that Kate Beckett and Rick Castle have broken up.

However, it seems as though the breakup won't last too long. In the teaser trailer for "Castle" season 8, episode 10, Rick and Kate are seen trying to think of ways they could secretly say "I love you" to one another at work.

"Castle" airs on ABC on Mondays at 10PM.
