Feeling Pain After Giving Birth? Try These 6 Tips To Lessen Postpartum Vaginal Pain

Women can feel some pain and discomfort during pregnancy. During childbirth, the pain and discomfort increase a thousand times more. However, vaginal pain continues for days or weeks even after giving birth.

Fortunately, there are some tips to lessen postpartum vaginal pain, according to PARENTS. These tips are very simple and can help remedy your pain and discomfort.

1. Postpartum pain while urinating

Peeing can be quite painful after giving birth. Using a small plastic container that can squirt lukewarm water around your vagina can help soothe the sensitive tissues on that area.

2. Vaginal inflammation and swelling

Disposable ice packs that are shaped liked maxi pads can be wrapped with soft washcloth and placed inside your underwear for 15 minutes every hour. This can help lessen the vaginal inflammation and swelling.

3. Vaginal tears and wounds

Sitz baths can help promote faster healing and repair of vaginal tissues. "With the kit, you place a small, shallow basin over the toilet seat, fill it with warm water, and sit on it so that your vulva and perineum are submerged," Midwife Katie Page told PARENTS. "For the bath, fill with three to four inches of water -- just enough to submerge your hips and buttocks-- and sit. For both, soak for 20 minutes a few times a day."

4. Vaginal moisture

Some moms use a dryer on the lowest setting and on cool mode to dry their moist vaginal area. The dryer should be placed six to eight inches away from the vagina and used for not more than three minutes. Preventing excessive vaginal moisture can help prevent infections.

5. Postpartum hemorrhoids and lacerations

Soak a black tea bag in a quarter of a cup of boiling water, cool it down and then place it on the affected area. Wearing a pad to hold it in place is also recommended. "Medicinal use of black tea bags has been based on their astringent (shrinking or constricting) properties and have been used for various medical applications," ClinicalTrials.gov shares.

6. Postpartum bleeding, cramping and pain

One of the most effective tips to lessen postpartum vaginal pain is by taking Ibuprofen. Although Ibuprofen is known to be safe even for breastfeeding mothers, women are still advised to consult their doctors before taking the medicine.

See, being a mom is such a tough job, but indeed a very fulfilling one. Pains? It's all worth it!
