Presidential Pets: Presidents Who Kept Pets In The White House

U.S. presidents typically love animals. In fact, there are over 200 pets that have made a home at the White House. And to know more about these interesting facts, the following are some of the "luckiest" presidential pets.

John F. Kennedy's pets

John F. Kennedy was the youngest candidate ever to be elected as president, he served the country from 1961-1963. When he and his family moved into the White House along with them were their cat named Tom Kitten; Zsa Zsa, rabbit; Robin, the canary; their horse named Sardar; ponies, Leprechaun, Tex and Macaroni; hamsters called Billie and Debbie, parakeets named Marybelle and Bluebelle; Welsh terrier called Charlie; Pushinka and Charlie's pups who were named Butterfly, White Tips, Blackie and Streaker; Clipper a German shepherd; Shannon a Cocker Spaniel; and Wolf an Irish Wolfhound.

President Lyndon B. Johnson's pets

President Lyndon B. Johnson, 1963-1969, had beagles called Him and Her. Johnson was often photographed with the famous dogs. In 1965, he added another two beagles in the family whom he named Kim and Freckles. Then he got a collie, which he named Blanco; Yuki, a mixed- breed dog; hamsters and lovebirds.

President Gerald Ford's pets

President Gerald Ford served the country from 1974-1977. The Ford's acquired a golden retriever, whom they called Liberty. Then, she gave birth to Misty. Afterwards, they got another dog named Lucky and a Siamese cat named Shan.

President Ronald Reagan's pets

President Ronald Reagan was the U.S. president from 1981-1989. The first animal to join his family in the White House was his Bouvier des Flandres named Lucky. Then, he got another pet named Rex, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel. Then, a golden retriever joined their growing family, whom they called Victory. After which, the first family got an Irish setter named Peggy; Siberian husky, Taca; Belgian sheepdog, Fuzzy and horses.

President Barack Obama's pet

The latest pets to live in the White House are Bo and Sunny, a Portuguese water dog. These lovely pets are owned by no other than latest president himself, Barack Obama.
