'Street Fighter 5' News & Update: Rapper Lupe Fiasco's Win Against World 'Street Fighter' Champion Daigo Umehara A Fake?

Rapper Lupe Fiasco as Ken battled world "Street Fighter" champion Daigo Umehara as Ryu on the freshly launched "Street Fighter 5." The match between Fiasco and Umehara took place during the "Street Fighter 5" launch event in San Francisco.

What resulted from the match kept jaws hanging open long after Fiasco and Umehara's fight. Public reaction is understandable given that Lupe Fiasco plays "Street Fighter" as a hobby, albeit since he was 5 years old, while Daigo Umehara plays it as a professional career.

According to Polygon, the "Street Fighter 5" best of five match between Lupe Fiasco and Daigo Umehara bore a 3-2 result, where Fiasco as Ken won the first, fourth and fifth rounds against Umehara who played as Ryu. In truth, neither fans nor the competitors could believe the outcome. Fans went as far as to speculate that the game was orchestrated as a "Street Fighter 5" publicity stunt.

Polygon quotes a subreddit Kappa comment, which encapsulated popular fan sentiment. "Daigo is such a pro, man," the commenter wrote. "Watching him whiff grabs and DPs just close enough to look legit to the casual observer, but knowing they'd miss, all the hype parry attempts, all of it. Booked better than a year's worth of 'Monday Night Raw.'"

Game Rant highlights that Daigo Umehara is a legend, earning the nicknames "The Beast" and "the god of 2D fighting games."

Lupe had expected to lose to Daigo and said as much on his Twitter account prior to going into the "Street Fighter 5" match. Umehara's latest wins, on the other hand, include taking 1st place at the Topanga League's Ultra "Street Fighter 4" tournament and a 2nd place win at the Capcom Cup 2015.

A number of fans believe, however, that the result is real and that Daigo Umehara's loss is possible given that even world champions have to get used to the controls the new game. Lupe Fiasco is no slouch either, having a reputation of being a gamer himself.

Game Rant points out that, whether or not the Street Fighter 5 match result between Lupe Fiasco and Daigo Umehara is genuine, the hype it generated made for a successful launch for "Street Fighter 5."
