Too Much Sugar In Your Diet Could Damage The Brain, New Study Reveals

A new study released on Feb. 17 showed that too much sugar in the body could damage the brain. Scientists at the University of New South Wales, Australia, conducted this research to promote and strengthen public awareness regarding excessive sugar consumption.

According to The Daily Mail, researchers equaled the damage of high sugar to the brain to extreme stress and even abuse. It is a wake-up call for those who are having way too much sweet in their diet to finally lessen their consumption of sugar.

It has been known that consuming high amount of sugar has a lot of bad effects to the physical body like dental health and the function of the blood, which is why diabetes is still among the scariest diseases out there. This study, however, just recently exposed another negative effect of sugar, which greatly affects a person's mental health. Psychiatric disorders can be expected later on in life if one does not know how to control their usual sugar cravings.

The Independent also reported this study stating that the part of the brain where sugar has a huge effect on was the region that holds a person's emotional behavior and the ability to acquire information. Taking in too much sugar on a regular basis could make an individual's brain grow weak just like what extreme stress does.

This also means that high sugar in the body could alter some changes in the hippocampus region of the brain, making it hard for an individual to remember things. That region is responsible for both memory and handling stress.

It is quite alarming that most young people these days are taking in too much sugar through sodas, candies and other confection and most are unaware of the consequences waiting for them in the future. Share this information now with your friends and loved ones to keep them informed of the negative effects of having too much sugar in their diet.
