A scientist said that people were born to like sugar. It is true as sugar can be addictive. This is because when you eat foods that contain sugar, you would feel happy and energized. However, consuming foods with lots of sugar can also be harmful. This may cause an increased risk factor for diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases, obesity and cancer.

To inhibit these illnesses that are threats to your health, you need to cut your intake of added sugar. And this can be done in observing some ways religiously. Today's Mama shares the following tips on how to quit sugar and reduce its intake:

1.       Admit that you like sugar much.

The more you eat sugar, the more you want it. Yes, you have to admit that you are addicted to sugar. Once you realized this, make a way on how you will eradicate sugar from your diet or lessen it.

Know what sugar you're addicted to and what type of foods that you should avoid eating whether cakes, candies, chocolates, coffee, processed carbs, milk, etc. Aim to limit the foods that contain lots of sugar and avoid the foods that could definitely raise your sugar.

According to Mind Body Green, among the foods that you can eat to detox from sugar are high protein, fiber and fat foods such as eggs, avocados, salmon, antibiotic free chicken, olive oil and hummus. Other foods that have less sugar or no sugar at all are green leafy vegetables such as kale and arugula, sour foods and pure dark chocolate.

2.       Drink plenty of water.

Water can detox and cleanse your body. It can also cut sugar cravings. You may add some lime wedges and lemon on it for some twist.

3.       Give yourself two weeks to detox from sugar.

It's difficult to quit sugar in just a few days. Try two weeks to really cut sugar intake. You must be firm in detoxing sugar into your system even though you'll see a sweet delicious cake and dessert. Self-control is also the key to cut sugar cravings.

4.       Know the label of food if it is packed with sugar.

There are some foods like yogurt and oatmeal cookies that are packed with sugar. Before you buy and eat them, read the label first on how much sugar they contain.

5.       Quit buying snacks that contain lots of sugar.

Most snacks that are delicious are sweet like cookies, candy cereals, chocolate chips, and candy granola bars. You must avoid eating them or better yet replace these snacks with sunflower seeds, pine nuts, natural fruit leather and pumpkin seeds.

6.       Don't skip meals.

Don't make yourself hungry and stay well-fed. It is advisable that you have a healthy eating habit, too.

The key is to limit eating foods that have lots of sugar. Quitting the intake of sugar is not an easy thing to do but you can do it gradually and observe the tips shared with you consistently. After all, discipline is a primary key.
