Salma Hayek Mourns 'Painful' Death of Pet Dog Mozart

Mexican-American actress Salma Hayek is still grieving the death of her dog more than a week ago after it was shot dead by a still unidentified suspect in her Washington State ranch. She claimed that her 9-year-old dog never bit or attacked anyone.

In an Instagram post, the 49-year-old actress asked for justice for the death of Mozart, one of her most loved pets. "I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone," Hayek said in a caption to Mozart's photo.

She noted that she was not able to post on social media for about a week because she was still very sad with the passing of her dog. Hayek claimed that she personally delivered Mozart out of her mother's womb nine years ago.

"He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart," the actress recalled the incident last February 19. "He loved his territory and never strayed away...he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn't deserve a slow and painful death," she added.

USA Today reported that the "Everly" actress was out of town when Mozart was found dead. A police report on the incident revealed that a pellet from a pellet gun penetrated into the dog's ribs and ruptured an artery. He reportedly bled until he died.

For his part, Deputy Lt. Cliff Ziesemer mentioned in the same report that Hayek's groundskeeper took Mozart and another dog for a run. However, when they were making their way home, Mozart started barking and took a trail and entered another person's property.

The case investigator noted that he was later found dead with a fatal shot near the heart. However, Ziesemer claimed that the pellet could have been used to only scare the dog and not to harm him.
