Leap Year Babies Dilemma From How Do They Celebrate Their Birthday To When Exactly Do They Turn 18 Legally?

Technically, leap year babies don't get to celebrate their birthdays every year since the 29th of February only comes once in every four years in the Julian calendar, which we all follow. This means instead of them celebrating their 28th birthday, they are technically recognized as seven years old.

There are lots of issues surrounding leap year birthdays because it would obviously affect a lot of a person's major aspects in life including the legal age to when he or she could get a driver's license and the application for a social security number. Medical Daily has shared some facts and stories about how some leap year babies have handled their birthday and aging issues.

One leap year baby had a hard time getting his social security even though when he is already 68 years old. Apparently, they decided to settle his birthday on March 1 just so he could finally get his SS.

Meanwhile, mothers can actually do something about this in order to spare their child the confusion as to when they should really celebrate their birthday. Mothers who delivered their baby on Feb. 29 could negotiate with the doctor as to what date should they put on the document. Doctors actually often ask mothers if they are really decided to make Feb. 29 their child's legal birthday.

But according to an article published by Quartz, celebrating every after four years is actually by choice for leap year babies. It is totally up to them if they want to celebrate it every year either on Feb. 29 or on March 1. Hence, if they are going to follow their technical and legal age, it still is every four years.

The good thing is they could always reason out to the government regarding their birthday issues if in case they want to apply for a driver's license or even when could they be legally allowed to drink alcohol once they reached 18 or 21 just like those who are not leap year babies.
