Dodgers Fan Dies After Fighting Over Game

A 24-year old Dodgers fan from Los Angeles dies after being stabbed to death during a fight, according to the Washington Post.

The fight took place on Wednesday night near AT&T Park after the game between Dodgers and Giants in San Francisco. Two men were arrested after Jonathan Denver was stabbed at around 11:30 p.m. PDT, shortly after the game ended, policed told the San Francisco Chronicle. Denver, who died at San Francisco General Hospital, was walking away from the stadium with his father and brother when a verbal disagreement with other men turned violent, police told CBS San Francisco. A second man was treated at the hospital and later released.

Denver was a plumber's apprentice in Fort Bragg. "He was just a very nice young man. He wanted to be a plumber," his employer, Cas Smith, told the Chronicle. "He was very promising. He was one of our best apprentices. It's sad." The Giants and Dodgers play again tonight and the team was considering whether to increase security. "We're obviously very concerned about the situation," Giants spokesperson Staci Slaughter told the Chronicle, "and trying to understand exactly what happened."

The Giants-Dodgers rivalry turned violent after the 2011 season opener in Los Angeles, when Giants fan Bryan Stow was beaten in a Dodger Stadium parking lot. The Giants held a fund-raiser for Stow, a paramedic who suffered brain injuries in the incident, on Tuesday, tonight and Saturday.
