Mom Breastfeeding at Sander's Rally Becomes Instant Hit on Social Media

The mother who was seen breastfeeding a child during a Bernie Sanders rally in Ohio was an instant hit on social media. Her photo became viral and even started the hashtag #BoobsForBernie.

CNN reported that the mother, Margaret Ellen Bradford, was not aware that photos of her were taken during the rally. But it noted that her snaps became really famous that other mothers also shared photos of them breastfeeding their kids on social media.

In her Facebook page, Bradford explained that she had to feed her six-month-old baby, Harper because she got hungry during the rally. "While there, she got hungry like babies do, and unbeknownst to me at the time a reporter took this photo of us," she noted.

But her exposure on social media also prompted some to send her death threats. Bradford confirmed that she received "hateful" messages on Facebook which really made her cry.

"I've gotten a lot of hate and a few death threats specific to my hatchetman tattoo," she added. "So basically people hate the tattoo because the associated music is angry and violent, and respond that they are superior to me with anger and violence."

Telegraph said the mom is planning to take a break from Facebook to avoid receiving hate messages. "[They're] telling me my daughter should be taken or that I'm just an uneducated lowlife hick. There is no reason why something like this should be so unheard of in 2016 because that's what moms do. Society, catch up with biology," Bradford said.

For his part, Sanders said there is no reason why moms breastfeeding in public should be denounced. "As a society, we should never stigmatize women for breastfeeding in public," Sanders posted on his Twitter account.

The presidential candidate, along with his wife Jane O'Meara, also reportedly approached Bradford for doing her part as a mom and making sure that her kid is fed. "Both thanked me for doing what mothers do and taking care of my daughter when she needed her mom," Bradford added on her Facebook page.
