Co-Sleeping With Your Baby Is Not Always Safe, But Here Are Some Things To Make It Work

It is only natural for parents to be quite attached to their babies, especially when they are newly born. Other parents prefer to sleep beside their child in their bed. Unfortunately it is not safe to do that, especially when they are below six months old. Co-sleeping with your baby could even be dangerous that it could lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

But as parents, it is hard not to sleep beside your child at night. This is why we have found some solutions that you could use in order to lower the risk of dangers that this activity could do to your child.

1. Firm Mattress: In an article published by BabyCentre UK, soft mattresses are not advisable for infants. It could suffocate them and it could produce more heat to their body, which could lead to SIDS. It is a must that you are sure that the mattress is firm and there are no gaps where your baby could accidentally fall into.

2.  Keep Your Baby's Dress Light And Warm: Always make it a point that your baby's temperature is warm and not hot. Dressing your baby using light clothes is safer since making body contact with them could cause your child's skin temperature to rise. Hint: If you notice that you are comfortable, then there is a huge chance that your baby is not. Let that be a sign that you need to change your clothes or your baby's clothes and even his or her position.

3. Don't Ever Sleep On A Sofa Or Waterbed With Your Child: The deep crevices of these furniture could put your child in danger. It is safe to stick to sturdy beds or mattresses because sofas and waterbeds could end up trapping your baby, which could lead to suffocation.

There have been a lot of cases about babies dying every year because of their parents co-sleeping with them. In a report posted by the Irish News, a 5-month-old baby died last year after co-sleeping in bed with his parents and the list goes on. Don't let your child be a part of this statistic.
