Parents Blatantly Tell Kids Flint Water is Poison

Parents in Flint, Michigan have a simple yet effective way of telling kids to avoid the city's tap water. They blatantly tell their young ones that Flint water is basically poison.

Nadia Baylor, 8, told CNN that she would die if she drink from a glass of Flint water. Julian Folgham, 8, was taught by his mother that the city's tap water is contaminated with lead and can potentially kill people.

Cheryl Farmer, Nadia's mom, said Flint children are very much aware of the city's downfall and would much rather live elsewhere. Aside from the contaminated water, the once-booming manufacturing stronghold is now a shell of itself complete with abandoned homes and violent streets.

Over 40 percent of Flint residents live below the poverty threshold. From 2011 to 2013, the city had the most violent crimes per capita in the U.S. Neighborhood Scout reported that Michigan now sits at the third spot below Camden, New Jersey and East St. Louis, Illinois.

Beverly Davis, a Flint resident, is still hopeful that her city can reclaim its former glory. However, she admits her hopes are dissipating quickly with each new crime report.

"I just feel like Flint is going to die away," Davis declared. "My kids have nothing to do here, period."

Davis' daughter, Dai'Chane, said residents feel helpless but can do nothing to help alleviate their plight. She reiterated that the people's morale was already low even before the water crisis broke out.

"I think no innocent person should have to experience this," she said. "I think it's a bad place, but I grew up here this is my hometown."

As of the moment, several parents have filed a class action against Michigan governor Rick Snyder and other government officials for gross negligence in providing safe and potable water for 100,000 Flint residents, as per Reuters.

The lawsuit, which was filed in Detroit federal court, aims to penalize the accused for causing thousands of people to incur serious health issues as well as economic setbacks. A total of 17 children have been confirmed to have high levels of lead after drinking tap water cultured from the Flint River.
