Photo of Leonardo DiCaprio's Mom With Hairy Armpit Goes Viral

A throwback photo of actor Leonardo DiCaprio and his mom became viral on social media. This was not because he recently won his first Oscars Best Actor award but because his mother, Irmelin, was seen with a hairy armpit.

The photograph, as per News.com.au showed a 1976 image of a baby Leonardo, who was being carried by his mom and father George. It was noted that the spotlight was taken away from "The Revenant" actor and shifted on to her mom's armpit.

"It's so funny I am part of a generation that wants to "free the nipple", but freaks out when women have hair in their armpits. #feminism," said Facebook user Trisha Dowd. Many had negative reactions on the photo saying they got shocked with it and were not comfortable seeing a woman with hair on their armpit.

But Kale Kiesser questioned how society perceived women who do not shave. "Why does his mom have to shave? All women grow hair under their arms. This was a different time. This was normal," she noted. "And women STILL DONT have to shave to appease you! She's not gross, only your irrelevant opinion is."

Another commenter, John Michael Bogle II, highlighted that choices made by women should be respected. "Some women like to shave their armpit hair, and that's cool. Others don't and that's cool, too. What's not cool is calling women horrible names because of their personal choices," he added.

According to BBC, a lot of people also hit the bashers of Irmelin saying that they were ignorant judgments on the natural body features of a woman. It added that laughing at and criticizing DiCaprio's mom for her armpit hair is a way for people to dictate what people should do with their bodies.

Many also commented that at that time, women really did not shave their armpits. Irmelin has yet to release a statement about the photograph.
