'Game of Thrones' News & Update: George R.R. Martin says 'TV Series Should Run 10 Seasons to Keep Up With the Novel'

As "Game of Thrones" Season 6 is quickly approaching, fans of the novel series, "A Song of Fire and Ice," are now asking George R.R. Martin if his final book, "A Dream of Spring," will be released in time for the "Game of Thrones'" finale. George R.R. Martin reveals on his LiveJournal that it might happen if "Game of Thrones" reaches 10 seasons on HBO.

"If the show runs ten seasons, maybe," George R.R. Martin answered his fan on his LiveJournal upon posting the "Game of Thrones" Season 6 trailer. George R.R. Martin is simply stated that "A Dream of Spring" might come out between 2019 or 2020 because he is not yet done writing "The Winds of Winter."

According to Screen Rant, it is uncommon for a novel-based television show to surface even if its "source material" is not yet done. Usually, the book has to come out first for public consumption before the TV adaptation or movie surfaces, just like in "Harry Potter."

George R.R. Martin previously cleared that the "Game of Thrones" television series will not go after the story of his unpublished novels. However, even though it is not entirely based on the books, the upcoming seasons of "Game of Thrones" will still spoil the unreleased "Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring" novels.

In the past, George R.R. Martin has explained that his novels have a few twists and turn of events that he doesn't allow HBO and "Game of Thrones" to show on television. He added that the change will involve some of the characters who are already demised on the "Game of Thrones," Movie Web reported.

Fans could expect some differences between "Game of Thrones" and "A Song of Fire and Ice." "Game of Thrones" Season 6 will prove this as it won't be totally based on "The Winds of Winter."

However, George R.R. Martin will still be consulted how "Game of Thrones" Season 6 will flow, so it can still be at par with the original story. "Game of Thrones" Season 6 will be aired on April 24 on HBO.
