Many games are shifting to Unreal Engine 4 because of the unlimited potential the new engine is offering. It promotes better graphics and tons of options to make a gameplay more powerful, fun and convincing.
Minecraft Looks Better in Unreal Engine 4
For "Minecraft" players who wonder how the game looks using Unreal Engine 4, you need not wonder anymore. YouTuber and developer John Alcatraz took the time to answer your question.
Per GameRanx, Alcatraz has no prior knowledge how voxel-based video games like "Minecraft" were developed. So, he started from scratch as he worked on blueprints of the said game using Unreal Engine 4.
In a forum, Alcatraz explained that he initially thought doing this would be a "small side project." However, as he worked on it, he realized that it was more complicated than he thought.
"My intention was not to create a game similar to Minecraft, but just to see how easy it is to make a voxel based game with good performance using Blueprints only in Unreal Engine 4," Alcatraz wrote.
Most, if not all, agree that "Minecraft" using Unreal Engine 4 looks better. To name a particular feature, it has nice sunrays. GameRanx agreed and added that this "Minecraft" version has sharper blocks and more vivid lightings.
As for the performance, Alcatraz noted that the current one used blueprints and no single C++ code. However, he shared that in his other project using BP to C++ converter, the performance improved by over 1,200 percent.
Minecraft to train AI
Meanwhile, BBC reported that "Minecraft" would be used to train AI (artificial intelligence). "People build amazing structures that do amazing things in Minecraft, and this allows experimenters to put in tasks that will stretch AI technology beyond its current capacity," said Katja Hofman, project lead.
Hofman is hopeful that in this way they can scale things up and eventually allow AI agents to work with human and support them in their creativity. "This provides a way to take AI from where it is today up to human-level intelligence, which is where we want to be, in several decades time," he added.
