Graco's Wood Highchair Recalled in US Citing Fall Hazard

Thousands of units of a particular brand of highchair have been recalled after the authorities received some complaints and injury reports from parents.

Nearly 86,000 units of "Graco Classic Wood Highchairs" in the U.S. and 3,400 units in Canada have been affected by the recall notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, Tuesday.

Authorities have received 58 incidents of the highchair seats detaching from the base and making the children fall down.  Nine children got injured and received bruises, bumps and scratches from the fall.

The product sold in three wood finishes has a top seat, bottom leg assembly and removable tray. The recall includes all the wood highchairs of Graco with the model numbers 3C00BPN, 3C00BPN TC, 3C00CHY, 3C00CHY TC, 3C00CPO or 3C00CPO TC. The model numbers can be found on a label below the seat assembly.

The recalled highchair, which cost $130 has been available in some retail stores like Babies R Us, Burlington Coat Factory and online at Target.com between September 2007 and December 2010.

Experts from CPSC urged the consumers to stop using the recalled product and approach the company Graco for receiving a free repair kit.

Any complaints regarding the product can be directly reported to the Consumer Product Commission's official website- SaferProducts.gov.
