'Gilmore Girls' Cast News & Update: Here's Why Melissa McCarthy Isn't In The Reboot; Actress Confirms It's All Good

Melissa McCarthy has confirmed she is not going to be part of the "Gilmore Girls" revival. The actress, who played Sookie St. James, the erstwhile best friend of Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) on the show, has begged off the Netflix project. However, she said that there's no bad blood between her and the "Gilmore Girls" production.

Melissa first expressed that she wasn't going to be part of the show when it returns to Netflix because she wasn't invited back. Posting a tweet to her fans in February, Melissa said, "No one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow."

But in talking to E! Online Thursday, Melissa said that the "Gilmore Girls" production might have thought she was busy so she didn't get asked. "And then by the time it did come up, then I actually was," she said. She's doing the new "Ghostbusters" movie and starring in "The Boss," so her schedule has been tight.

However, the actress clarified that there are no hard feelings and she will be watching the "Gilmore Girls" when it comes out on the streaming site. "I'm actually thrilled that it's happening," she further said. "I loved that show, and I think the fans for that show are super loyal and great and I will watch every single one of them."

Rumors that Melissa was finally on board "Gilmore Girls" surfaced when her former co-star and TV screen husband, Jackson Douglas, told his Twitter followers that he got the script to "Gilmore Girls.

Another "Gilmore Girls" co-star, Yanic Truesdale, posted a photo of him and Melissa together on his Instagram, but reminded fans of the show not to put too much thought into it.

Scotch, great meal and catching up with my old friend @melissamccarthy, can't ask for more! Dont read anything into it guys.

Fans will definitely be watching to find out how the show will explain Sookie's absence on "Gilmore Girls." However, it might not matter too much that she's gone since most of the show's former cast members are coming back to, per TV Line. With only four episodes set for airing, there would be lots of catching up to do.
