Insects as food are soon to be a household thing according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAOUN) on March 17. This means that people who are scared of insects might have to get over that fear soon and embrace this new idea because they are about to take over the world of culinary and everyday meals for everyone who has a hungry appetite.
In an article published by CNBC, they reported that FAOUN's statement on insects being the food of the future is relevant. This is especially true when these creatures were found to have high quality of protein, vitamins and even amino acids that is good for the health of the human race. It is looking like the future humans would be eating like Timon and Pumbaa from the "Lion King" when they were teaching Simba the song, Hakuna Matata.
Moreover, the publication cited FAOUN findings about the benefits of eating insects in the case of our environment. Apparently, food production involving insects has low impacts when it comes to harming our planet.
They added that insects has "high food conservation rate" like that we could get from crickets. They noted that crickets require just six times less feed than that with cows.
To top the benefits we could have with insect food, less greenhouse gases is expected from their emission, which could even turn into organic waste. France is already getting started in seriously having insects take over in the food industry.
A company called Ynsect is now doing a lot of research to make this happen. According to Antoine Hubert, CEO of Ynsect, "Ynsect has been working on many insects in its research and development lab, but has selected one species to go on the market first, it's a small beetle, called mealworm."
This is not the first time that this concept has been brought up, last year, there has been talks about this topic going viral soon and it is looking like it is about to happen. Now, the question is, are you ready to have insects on your plates?
