'Tomb Raider' Reboot Release Date, Cast News & Plot Details: Daisy Ridley Finally Confirms Talks With Studio; New Movie To Follow Plot From Games

After stories circulated that Daisy Ridley is the leading choice to play Lara Croft for the planned "Tomb Raider" reboot, the "Star Wars" actress finally addressed what's really happening. The return of "Tomb Raider" is being fast tracked at Warner Bros. and the studio is said to be working alongside game developer Square Enix for the story arc. The movie will follow the plot from the game series.

Daisy Ridley confirmed that "there have been conversations" for her to play Lara Croft. However, she has yet to see a script. "I'm waiting for someone to say 'I want you, let's do it'," she said, per Hollywood Reporter.

There are concerns that the actress might not be able to squeeze "Tomb Raider" in her busy schedule because of her commitment to "Star Wars." She's in the midst of filming "Episode 8" and will have to do "Episode 9" thereafter. But Daisy Ridley said playing Lara Croft would be a great opportunity she would be crazy to turn down. "I'm trying to fill up my calendar," she added.

Equally excited to see the young British actress in the "Tomb Raider" reboot is her "Star Wars" co-star John Boyega. "I played 'Tomb Raider' the game, it's a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version," he said per Coming Soon. "But I texted Daisy [and] was like, 'this is you!' and 'you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.' She should be."

In announcing "Tomb Raider's" return, the studio said that they want a story that will have young Lara going on her very first adventure, per IGN. So, they have approached Square Enix, which created Lara Croft and the "Tomb Raider" video series. The movie will be based on the 2013 "Tomb Raider" video game release for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

GQ suggests casting Daisy Ridley for the reboot comes at a great time when the public already knows who is Lara Croft. Back when Angelina Jolie starred in the movies in the early 2000s, "Tomb Raider" didn't have a wider reach and only video gamers knew what it was about.
