Day Care Worker and Director Arrested After Allegedly Abusing Toddlers in the Center

A woman who is a day care worker in Glastonbury was arrested after she allegedly hit, restrained and roughly handled several toddlers over the past years. Her supervisor was also arrested for failing to report the incident.

Nicole Mayo, 22, from Wethersfield, has been charged with one count of disorderly conduct and three counts of risk of injury to a child. The authorities began the investigation after receiving a complaint from the state Department of Children and Families (DCF) in December, according to New Haven Register.

Police said that they found a reasonable ground that Mayo abused some toddlers at The Stork Club day care. Mayo paid $65,000 bail and she has to appear in Manchester Superior Court on April 6.

Meegan Beach, 40, the director of the day care was also arrested on Monday. Police said that she failed to report incident although she is aware of it. Other day care workers repeatedly told her about the abuse allegations against Mayo. By law, child care providers should report the child abuse allegations to DCF, as reported by Hartford Courant.

Beach is facing three counts of failure to report child abuse and three counts of risk of injury to a minor. She paid $45,000 bail and has to appear on the same court at the same day.

Sgt. Corey Davis said that Mayo was placed on leave in December and her employment status was not clear. She does not want to provide any comment. Even the Glastonbury Stork Club corporate office did not returned the calls to request for a comment.

The day care in Glastonbury is one of the six Stork Club child care and development centers in Connecticut. Other Stork Clubs are located at Meriden, Rocky Hill, Southington, Cheshire and Orange.

Gary Kleeblatt, DCF spokesperson would not comment regarding the arrest as well.
