"Sherlock" Season 4 spoilers hint on the possibility that Dr. Watson's wife, Mary, will die in the upcoming series. StarMine News reports that Martin Freeman, who plays the role of Dr. Watson, shared in an interview his thoughts on this possibility.

"While we play fast and loose with the original stories, we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did," Martin said. "So, Watson gets married and then Mary dies - so at some point presumably she'll die."

In the original story, Mary Watson dies due to childbirth. However, "Sherlock" writer Mark Gatiss previously shared that what happens in the books does not have to happen in the series.

Meanwhile, PBS head Paul Kerger previously revealed that "Sherlock" Season 4 is slated to return in January 2017, Den of Geek reported.

Filming for "Sherlock" Season 4 is also slated to begin this April, but the publication notes that it remains to be seen whether filming will be done in an uninterrupted block or if there will be a break in-between episodes. Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing Marvel's Doctor Strange while Martin Freeman will also play a role in "Captain America: Civil War."

It also remains to be seen whether "Sherlock" Season 4 will see the return of Moriarty. Showrunner Steven Moffat also teased fans and viewers on what to expect in the upcoming series.

"It's hilarious and exhilarating some days, but some days it's going to be bloody frightening," he said.
