Toddler with Deformed Head Undergoes Surgery to Avoid Squashing the Brain

A baby who is said to have the most deformed head undergoes a pioneering surgery to stop her brains from being completely squashed, according to the Daily Mail.

Three-year old Kaydence Theriault and her triplets Taylor and Kaylin were all born with Crouzon Syndrome -- a type of illness that results in the deformation of the head. However, among the three, Kaydence is the one who has the deformed head that doctors say look like a clover leaf and an immediate surgery was needed to ensure that her brain would not be damaged.

A team of expert cranio-facial surgeons pooled together to save her. She is now just like any playful toddler with no special health issues or learning problems and is catching up in height with other kids.

The mother, Bobbie Jo, 38, said: "The doctors have been amazing. When Kaydence was born, no one knew if should would survive. But thanks to their incredible talent we have a normal healthy daughter and we can't thank them enough. Mrs. Theriault confirmed that she wasn't aware that there was any problem until her 20-week scan showed one of her triplets had a deformity. "When the doctors told me about Kaydence having a clover leaf-shaped head, I couldn't picture that. I have never seen it before so I had no idea what to expect."

Bobbie Jo, her eldest son, Jayden, and Kaydence all suffer from Crouzon Syndrome which she inherited from her father.

"The shape of Jayden's head started changing and that's when we and the doctors realized he needed surgery. He was in a hospital two or three days and then he was home and that was the end of it and he was completely fine," the kid's father said.

"That's one of the reasons why we wanted to have another child. I didn't want Jayden to grow up without a sibling."
