Oculus Rift To Begin Shipping, VR Technology Can Help Improve Learning

A lot of people are now set to experience virtual reality as Oculus Rift is finally out for delivery. Kickstarter units already started shipping while the pre-order ones will soon be sent in the middle of the week.

According to The Journal, tech-savvy enthusiasts and the ones interested to have Oculus Rift don't have to worry as they only have to wait until July to personally experience virtual reality. Oculus Rift is set to be officially available in the said month for $599 per unit on Oculus' online shop.

Interested buyers will also have the chance to avail the Oculus Rift bundle from Microsoft and Best Buy. The Oculus Rift bundle includes a headset and "gaming-caliber PC" without a monitor. However, there are some abusive sellers that have started posting their Oculus Rift for sale on Amazon for double the price at 1,200 and above.

The Oculus Blog notes that there are a lot of things a person can do using Oculus Rift such as virtual reality games and 360-degree video experience. On top of that, the Oculus Rift can also be used for education.

In fact, EON Reality cited that virtual reality can boost the students' interest to up to 92 percent and improve their test scores by 35 percent. Virtual reality, too, can build a new kind of bond between the learners and instructors.

A case study from Unimersiv explained that students can have a greater recollection from what their senses pick up. According to the study, students remember 20 percent from hearing, 30 percent from seeing and 90 percent from feeling.

Hence, by incorporating virtual reality in learning, students can learn more by experiencing what they need to know first hand. Virtual reality has the ability to teach students by personally doing something and can also result to a greater creativity through "constructionism."

Virtual reality can be the best teaching method as it will teach students by experience. As the old quote goes, "Experience is the best teacher."
