EVGA Introduces New High-End Gaming Laptop With Impressive Specs

EVGA has unveiled its first ever high-end gaming laptop.

The EVGA SC17, which was released in January at this year's CES in Las Vegas, boasts of an aluminum body with 4K screen display, PCWorld reported. The device weighs 8.14 pounds, and has a 1.5-inch aluminum chassis.

Listed below is the full rundown of technical specifications.

  • CPU - Intel Core i7-6820HK
  • Display - Sharp 17.3 UHD 4K (3840x2160)
  • Storage - Samsung 256GB M.2 NVMe PCI-E SSD + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6G
  • Memory - 32GB G.Skill 2666MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM (16GBx2)
  • Webcam - Full HD 1920x1080
  • Keyboard - Full-sized white backlit
  • HDMI and dual Mini DisplayPort output
  • Two USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB-C port

However, EVGA hasn't released the SC17's battery life yet. The firm also claimed that it did not take "shortcuts" when it came to the creation of its first gaming laptop, Hexus reported. According to the company, the device was designed from scratch and completely caters to the "hardcore gamer."

The American computer hardware company insisted that "it all starts with power," equipping the laptop with an in-house designed power supply with a "unique form factor" that can offer up to 240W when needed, Hexus added.

More Features

The SC17's overclocking features include a BIOS with a full graphic user interface and mouse controls, voltage, memory timing, frequency, GPU overclocking, a push-button "SuperClock" mode, and granular controls over CPU multipliers, PCWorld listed. The laptop also has a noteworthy cool and quiet operation even during gaming.

EVGA said that the SC17's design offers "high thermal efficiency" with 165W+ thermal capacity to avoid overheating, Hexus further reported.

The device's 4K display, however, doesn't support Nvidia G-Sync, a feature which assists in preventing stutter and tearing, the news outlet noted. The feature does this by maintaining the screen's refresh rate in step with a game's framerate. EVGA plans to remedy this by working on a G-Sync variant likely to be released later in 2016.

A review from PCPer said that the SC17's screen hinge heats up during gameplay, but that heat doesn't reach the wrist rest area at the bottom of the device. The laptop is also equipped with dual speakers on the top of the chassis wrist rest and a subwoofer on the bottom.

Price & Release Date

Pre-orders are now available for the SC17 at $2699.99, with a limit of one per household, Hexus reported. EVGA will start shipping to clients in mid-April. Those who will purchase the laptop will be given a 2-year warrant, with a free TORQ gaming mouse bundle for a limited time.
