"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 may be the show's series finale; that is if Ian Somerhalder's statements can be taken as a hint about the show's cancellation after the upcoming season. In a recent interview with E! News, Somerhalder shared that he reflected on his stay on the CW series.

The 37-year-old actor, however, quickly dismissed his moment of reflection on "TVD" because he wanted to look forward to the show's upcoming season. Somerhalder also talked about the show's future after Season 8.

"We don't know where that's going to go but leaving the audience with the fact that by that time they will have spent eight years of their life with these people," Somerhalder shared. "I want the audience to feel closer, more afraid, more in love, more in tune with these characters than they ever have been."

Meanwhile, teaser photos for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 Episode 17 were recently released online, reports TV Fanatic. The said photos showed Rayna all tied up, as Alaric and Valerie will try to keep her contained while Stefan will find himself too busy trying to save lives from a school bus that is on fire.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 Episode 16 will also shed some light on Stefan's reaction after learning about Damon's decision to put himself to sleep next to Elena.
