Education Trends: How Would You Know If Your Child Is Ready For Kindergarten?

One of the things that parents are concerned about when it comes to their kids is their education. The question as to when is the right time for them to start kindergarten has always been an issue, especially for first-time parents. Today, you would be able to find out the answer to it coming from teachers and the government itself.

The Right Time A Child Is "Kindergarten Ready" According To Teachers

PNJ posted that most teachers have their own prerequisites when it comes to determining the right time for a child to enter kindergarten. Among these is the ability to distinguish and name a minimum of seven colors.

Being able to write their own name is also a part of it, followed by them knowing the letters of the alphabet and their respective sounds. The last two indications that your child is ready for school are when they could follow simple directions and if they're able to sit and do nothing for 10 minutes.

Kindergarten Readiness According To The Government

As for the government's say on this matter, it would differ from state to state. In Florida, the Department of Education decided to make some changes in the way they do testing for kids who could be ready for kindergarten. Upon revamping the prerequisites, they have noticed that 90% of kids became ready for kindergarten this year compared to only having 66% of them in 2014.

Great Schools shared that assessment tests are used by school districts to know if a child is ready for kindergarten. Parents are encouraged to consult with their child's preschool adviser to know the status of their child's learning ability.

Pediatricians could also offer their assessment and advice regarding this subject. You could always consult them asking if your child is ready for school or what other things you should do to prepare them for kindergarten.
