Common Core Sees Learning Cursive Writing Unnecessary

There are some old ways of teaching that are proven to be effective than those modern ways. Technology is a proof of human innovation but not all innovation that is applied to the education system is efficient. Some of it make children lazy.

It has been reportedly said that one of the Common Core State Standards proposal is to eliminate the learning of cursive writing in the whole curriculum. They may have a point that cursive writing is not that important anymore because people can still read whatever writing or font style there is but what matters about teaching the cursive writing to students is the experience in learning it.

Cursive writing style is even used in most old books and eliminating it is like removing or erasing history. Though the Common Core initiative is not forcibly requiring schools to stop teaching it but the thought that they are telling the educators and students that it is no longer necessary is not right. Cursive writing can fall under the history of art.

The reason behind why Common Core is pushing to remove cursive writing is because they don't see it as helpful in the modern day. As posted by Inverse, the students in the future generation won't be writing any cursive letters if they work in one of the top companies in the world.

According to Teach Hub, a workshop facilitator and certified handwriting specialist, Angie Kalman, said, "What we say is technology isn't going anywhere, but neither is handwriting." She added, "Instead of one or the other, it's really a support system of both."

Talking about efficiency, writing in cursive is way better than writing in print. It flows smoother and you write faster. In her knowledge, Common core will be requiring kids to write more so why not offer or teach a way of writing that is more efficient, says Kalman.

Parents and educators who are in favor of learning cursive wiring for the students still have nothing much to worry about because states and schools can decide to continue teaching cursive writing if they want. It's just the thought that Common Core is not including it in their standards.
