Menstrual Cramps: 3 Ways To Handle Dysmenorrhea Period Pains

Extremely painful cramps during menstruation are a reality that women share every month. Dysmenorrhea menstrual cramps can get in the way of daily activities, like work. However, there are ways to handle the condition and get relief just by using simple remedies.

1. Drink Tea

There is no scientific evidence to support that drinking tea can ease the symptoms of dysmenorrhea. However, certain teas have been used for centuries to help relieve pain including menstrual period cramps. Everyday Health shares that herbal tea made from cramp bark can help ease cramp discomfort. Peppermint tea, a known natural muscle relaxer can also help as well. Cinnamon and chamomile tea have anti-inflammatory properties and are effective for relieving menstrual pain, Home Remedies For Life adds.

2. Eat Dark Chocolate

It's not unusual to have cravings during your menstrual period. The best dark chocolates to eat are ones that are at least 70 percent cocoa. The Period Blog shares that dark chocolates can encourage the production of endorphins, the body's natural painkiller. It is also high in magnesium and potassium which can help soothe muscle cramps. This means that eating dark chocolate is effective for easing dysmenorrhea menstrual cramps as it can improve the mood, help reduce pain and give extra energy.

3. Have An Orgasm

Having an orgasm through sex or masturbation can help relieve the symptoms of dysmenorrhea menstrual cramps. Medical Daily reports that the woman's blood flow in the uterus flows more rapidly after achieving an orgasm. This is because the uterine muscles contract during climax and at the same time, the body releases the natural pain reliever serotonin.

"The strength and intensity of an orgasm can relieve cramps," Toronto sex therapist Judith Golden told Best Health Magazine. "And the hormones released during sexual excitement can also help."
