2016 GLAAD Media Awards: Complete List of Winners Who Promoted LGBT Community

The GLAAD Media Awards is known for recognizing and honoring the media's fair and accurate representations of the LGBT community and the lives they lead. On Saturday, April 2, the award giving body's 27th annual event once again announced winners, along with performances by LGBT advocates and special recognitions.

Caitlyn Jenner won the best documentary series award for "I Am Cait," The Hollywood Reporter wrote. She shares the honor with "I Am Jazz," a docuseries about transgender teen Jazz Jennings. Director Lilly Wachowski, who came out as transgender in March, also made her first public appearance at this year's GLAAD Media Awards.

"I'm honored to share this award with Jazz," Jenner said, as quoted by THR. "We have so many issues with trans youth, suicide rates and murder rates, and with your example with your show, it gives these young people hope that they can survive those very difficult times as they grow up trying to figure out who they are."

She continued, "Getting to know the people at GLAAD has been a tremendous experience for me. They have helped me so much, working my way through the land mines of the trans world in the last year. [GLAAD director of programs for trans media] Nick Adams, you're the best. We don't make it right all of the time, but we try our best to get it right when it comes to these issues."

Demi Lovato, who performed her new song "Stone Cold" at the ceremony, has been awarded with the Vanguard Award. "Orange is the New Black" star Ruby Rose was presented with the Stephen F. Kolzak award, which is given to individuals who have made an impact in the promotion of equality and acceptance for the LGBT community, the news outlet added.
