Three-Year Old is in a Vegetative State, Parents Blame Dentist for Negligence

Parents of a three-year old girl who is suddenly on a vegetative state is blaming a Hawaii dentist for negligence and malpractice, according to CNN.

They filed a lawsuit against Lilly Geyer and her practice, Island Dentistry for Children, for allegedly prescribing improper medications with incorrect dosages on their daughter, Finley Boyle, last December. "As a direct and proximate result of the medications administered to (Finley) by defendants, (Finley) suffered cardiac arrest during her dental procedure," the lawsuit states. It was also stressed in the lawsuit that the girl suffered severe and permanent brain damage as a result of administering improper medication.

Geyer and Geyer's attorney, John Nishimoto, have not yet responded for comment. The Island Dentistry website states that it has already permanently closed and redirects patients to access a specified e-mail address. Also in the lawsuit filed recently are claims that Geyer did not have a concrete plan or procedure in place to respond to medical emergencies. Finley's mother, Ashley Boyle, said she first took her daughter to the clinic in November after she was informed that the little girl needed six fillings and four root canals.

They went back to the clinic on December to undergo root canal. The parents confirmed that their daughter was sedated and was left unmonitored for approximately 26 minutes. "She will probably not be with us much longer," Ashley said. Finley's pediatric neurologist, Dr. Gregory Yen, said the girl is in a "persistent vegetative state" since last month. MRIs revealed severe damage on her brains. "It is difficult to say how long Finley will be alive," Dr. Yen said.
