Best Diets Named, Paleo Diet Ends Up at the Bottom of the List

The U.S News and World Report has recently named the diets that received the highest rating and confirmed that among all diets mentioned, Paleo Diet was the one found at the bottom of the list, according to the Washington Post.

DASH diet received the highest rating as the best diet. Also known as Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, this diet is designed to lower a person's blood pressure. The diet received the highest rating on a five-point scale measuring short and long-term weight loss, ease of compliance, safety and nutrition. A panel of experts described the diet, saying: "Emphasize the foods you've always been told to eat like fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins and low-fat dairy, while shunning those you've grown to love (calorie and fat-laden sweets and red meat). Top if all off by cutting back on salt."

The TLC Diet was named the second-best diet. Weight Watchers ranked third place along with the Mediterranean Diet which emphasizes the consumption of fruits, vegetables, olive oil and fish. The Paleo diet, also known as the Cave Man diet and the Dukan diet were tied for last place. First popularized in the 1970s, the Paleo Diet requires users to follow a diet very much like those who lived during the Paleolithic era, according to CNN. "If cavemen didn't eat, you shouldn't either," said the U.S News & World Report.

The group also cited a lack of research proving the Paleo Diet's cardiovascular health and weight loss benefits, as well as its restrictiveness, in their ranking. The U.S News & World Report also published several other lists, including best weight-loss diets, best diabetes diets, best commercial diet plans and easiest diets to follow.
