Woman Dies After Being Injected with an Alternative Cancer Treatment

A woman from Colorado whose name is withheld due to privacy constraints, passed away from an alternative breast cancer treatment, the Examiner reports.

The cause of the death was partially due to cesium injections. The woman previously refused a biopsy on a lump found in her breast and opted instead to take cesium chloride pills and other supplements to treat her cancer. Doctors confirmed that she already has advanced breast cancer that spread to her lymph nodes. It was found that her death was caused by several other factors as well, including the very high levels of cesium chloride in her system which could result to cardiac arrests and neuromuscular problems.

"Proponents claim that the pH inside of her tumor cells is usually very low, or acidic, compared to normal cells, and the cesium chloride supplements raise the pH level of tumor cells to a normal level, which slows the cancer's growth. Since proponents claim cesium chloride works by raising pH of the tumor cells, its use in therapy has been called "high pH therapy," the American Cancer Society explained.

However, the cesium that was found in the woman's body is the not the same with cesium used in radiation therapy. Cesium chloride, chemical name, CsCI, is a rare occurring element of alkali metal. It is similar in composition to lithium, sodium and potassium which is why the body is able to absorb it so well. Cesium chloride is also available in both tablet and liquid form and the latter is typically used for injections. There is no scientific evidence that confirms that high pH therapy works and no clinical trials have ever been conducted to date.
