Microsoft’s ‘Quantum Break’ Piracy: Remedy Entertainment Brands Pirates

Microsoft exclusive "Quantum Break" by Remedy Entertainment is taking a pot shot at trollers who intend to pirate the game. Reports have surfaced that illegally downloaded versions of "Quantum Break" on Windows 10 will actually display lead character Jack Joyce with an eye patch.

TechRadar reports that the eye patch does not only appear on Jack Joyce for pirated "Quantum Break" copies. Jack Joyce also puts on the eye patch if a player forgets to sign in to Windows Store with a valid Microsoft account before playing "Quantum Break."

The media agency, however, points out that the dig at "Quantum Break" piracy may backfire as the eye patch may be taken as a brand of coolness. On the up side, "Quantum Break" has been generating good buzz. Game developer Remedy Entertainment, who collaborated with Rockstar Games on "Max Payne," brought in the same mojo in developing "Quantum Break."

"Max Payne" and "Quantum Break" are both cinematic third person shooters that involve manipulation of time. Porting their expertise over to developing "Quantum Break" had to have been a tad easier for Remedy Entertainment. The game heavily integrates TV-show narrative in 21-minute segments that explain many of the motivations behind the characters in the endless shooting and carnage.

According to Thurrot, players who purchase "Quantum Break" can take advantage of the Microsoft "cross buy" offer between Windows 10 and XBox One. This means that gamers who buy the game for Xbox One will get the game on PC for free. Furthermore, gamers can easily switch the game back-and-forth between PC and XBox One with all the histories and saved chapters intact.

"Quantum Break" features "X-Men" actor Shawn Ashmore as Jack Joyce and "Game Of Thrones" actor Aidan Gillen as Paul Sirene. "Quantum Break" was released by Microsoft Studios on April 5 2016.
