Reddit New Feature: ‘Block User’ To Control Online Harassment, Internet Trolls and Spam

The all-around online bulletin board, Reddit, recently updated its block user feature to protect its users even more. The block user feature is improved to control online harassment, internet trolls and spam.

According to Tech Times, the block user feature allows Reddit members to comment on replies and filter the target posts and messages received. Also, the Reddit user's profile can be customized through the preferences page.

Reddit co-founder Christopher Slowe described Reddit as a virtual place where anyone can speak their minds freely, tackling a variety of topics, personal opinions and more. Reddit users build their own online communities that can lead to different kinds of discussions.

"But, sometimes this very openness can lead to less awesome stuff like spam, trolling, and worse, harassment," Christopher Slowe explained. Hence, Reddit makes their move to fight these problems.

ValueWalk reported, in the online world, it is quite uncontrollable to receive abusive comments but, with the new block user feature, Reddit members can easily stop that from happening. One just simply has to tick the "Block User" button then everything the abuser sent will be removed.

However, the Reddit users are still encouraged to report the abusive Reddit member aside from just blocking the person. Not everyone on Reddit is responsible social media users.

In fact, half of the Reddit members are "racist, misogynistic and downright nasty" that creates controversial forums. Reddit faced a number of scandalous news when the former Reddit CEO Ellen Pao resigned when he was continuously trolled and the leak of celebrity nude photos in 2014.

As a result, Reddit is really looking forward to make their site cleaner and to serve their users properly by being a little stricter. Reddit is very much aware that they got hugely popular for being open and having "democratic nature" and their changes might lead to quitting members.
