Xbox One Upgrade, News & Update: Cross-Play Feature With PS4 Ready; Microsoft Gearing For E3 2016 Presentation

Xbox One is all ready for the launch of its cross-play feature with the PlayStation 4 (PS4). A head from Microsoft also revealed that the company is excited about their upcoming E3 2016 presentation because they have plenty to announce to gamers.

Cross-Play Available On Xbox One

In March, Xbox One was said to be launching a feature that would enable its console players to enjoy games with PS4 users in a cross-network, as Parent Herald reported. Xbox One European head Agostino Simonetta confirmed where the company is with this plan and stated that the technology is already there. They also have the first game ready.

"Rocket League is the first game - and it is a heavily network-orientated game," Simonetta said, per Eurogamer. But he made it clear that any game can become part of the cross-play network and it is up to the developers to join and make use of the features. "We're ready. We've done our bit and we welcome anyone who wants to take part," he said.

Microsoft released Xbox One devkits that offer the functionality for cross-play for developers. Gamespot reports that this is available via the Xbox Dev Mode that is part of Windows 10. "Developers of all shapes and sizes will be able to use Xbox Dev Mode to build and test UWP apps and games on their retail Xbox One console," said the Microsoft statement.

More To Be Unveiled At E3

Meanwhile, the company is looking forward to the annual E3 event that takes place June 14 to 16 in Los Angeles, California. Not only that, but it is expected that attendees will be learning more about the Xbox One upgrades and exclusives.

"In the longer term, I want anybody who's building a game, regardless of what device they're on, to be able to look at Xbox Live," said Microsoft's gaming chief Phil Spencer via Venture Beat. He's also expected to talk about what gamers can expect for "Gears of War 4" and "Halo Wars 2," as well as any potential hints about the company's next biggest console.
