Study: Men Are Creepy

Although men share some attributes, they also differ in many aspects individually. But whether they are the same or not, a new study suggests that men are creepy.

What is Creepy?

Creepy is something that one finds annoyingly unpleasant. It could be a person or situation that makes one feel uneasy or fearful. According to CBS Philly, one is considered creepy if they stood too close to another person, dressed oddly or wore dirty clothes, liked their lips often or laughed at unexpected times.

Individuals with bags under their eyes, greasy or unkempt hair, very pale skin, long fingers and very pale skin are also creepy. There are still tons of other things that some or others consider creepy. It depends on one's response.

"I think the creepiness response is an adaptive response, whether you're dealing with a person or a place," said Frank McAndrew, lead researcher of the study per Broadly. He explained that one weighs the other person's innocence or threat to define if he is creepy or not.

New Study Covers Creepiness

The study surveyed 1,341 individuals from different countries with an average age of 28. The survey questions ask about the creepiest profession, hobbies and more. The study concluded that the creepiest job includes the clowns, taxidermists and sex shop owners. Anything relating to uncomfortable issues like death and sex was regarded as creepy occupations. Meanwhile, collecting dolls and bird watching topped the list for creepy hobbies.

Men More Creepy Than Women

The result of the survey revealed that men are more often, creepy than women. Researchers believe that the result was due to the inclination that men are threats. Meanwhile, women's answers showed that they are more likely to perceive a sexual threat from a creepy person.

Creepy is tied to unpredictability and failure to respond to social cues. While being creepy depends on one's response, this study is a good reminder that everyone should be mindful of his environment and the people he encounters.
