Women-Exclusive Ride Sharing Service Gives Uber Stiff Competition

A new car service just for ladies has recently been launched by a former Uber driver. The brains behind Chariot for Women, Michael Pelletz, has thought of this idea to lessen the sexual assault complaints with the Uber service.

In an interview with ABC News, Pelletz said that his ultimate goal is to make female passengers feel safe whenever they would avail of a car service. "Having thousands of passengers in my backseat, I heard stories about unsafe travel and Uber drivers hitting on women and just a lot of unsafe issues," he added.

He also explained that Chariot for Women will also provide good service to moms who travel with their daughters or sons below the age of 13. Prior to its launch in the United States this coming April 19, there are already about a thousand female car owners who have expressed their intention to register with the new car service.

Future Chariot for Women driver Gwenn Pratt explained that having female customers as passengers is also a safety assurance for female drivers like her. "If I was picking up a man I know that he's going to be a lot stronger than me and I would not feel comfortable," she added.

It was added in a Digital Spy report that Pelletz's car service will only have women drivers who will be subject to strict and thorough background checks before they are allowed to pick up customers. It also highlighted that the company hopes to provide the "most secure" rideshare experience for women.

Asked for comment on the new ride-sharing service of Pelletz, Uber told ABC News that its system to assure the safety of the riders is still the best in the industry. "Uber's technology makes it possible to focus on safety for riders and drivers before, during, and after every trip in ways that have never been possible before," a company quoted by ABC News read.

He also explained that they made sure that the technology that comes with their service will not allow "nighttime street hails" and gives riders the chance to track their transit in an app-based map.
