Safety Warning For Twins: Crib Safety of Mom Goes Viral On Facebook, Know Why

Alison Johnson still feels frightened on how a side by side setup of the twins' cribs could have put Caleb precariously in danger. Posting her experience on Facebook, she warns other moms especially of twins, about the danger of the small gap between the two cribs.

In what could have been a tragic incident, Johnson was surprised that the seemingly danger-free set up could pose a great risk to her child's life. Last April 4, Johnson, mother of 18-month old twins Caleb and Libby, put Caleb down in his crib for an afternoon nap when the unexpected happened, Today Parents reports.

Not expecting that Caleb can climb out of the crib, she was surprised to see him trapped in the 6-inch gap between the two cribs after she heard him cry. "His body fit through, but his head wouldn't. He was using every ounce of energy he had to hold himself up by his little arms," Johnson wrote on her Facebook post, which was shared more than a thousand times over. "If they had given out, he would've just been hanging there by his head."

"What's even more scary is that like many moms, I generally use naptime as an opportunity to shower," she continued in the post. "Had I done that today and checked on him after five minutes, he would have literally hung himself. When baby proofing, I never in a million years would have seen this as a potential danger."

Even after more than a week has passed since the incident, Johnson is still shaken by what happened. Huffington Post says that Johnson is urging everyone to share the Facebook post to raise awareness of the possible danger of that particular crib arrangement. As Scary Mommy puts it, there are dangers that you don't expect that pose the biggest risk.

Meanwhile, she was pleasantly surprised to receive such positive feedbacks about her post, already half-expecting that her parenting skills will be criticized. In a follow-up post, she expressed her gratitude that positive responses poured in.

While parents always make a way to baby proof every corner of the house, you can't still be too careful. Sharing experiences via social media can indeed raise awareness of the different dangers lurking around. To know more about crib safety, check out the video below:
