Keeping Your Diet For A Year Can Help You Get Back In Shape Permanently

A research from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark found out a person can permanently get back in shape when they stick to their diet for a year. Maintaining a slender body can be possible by keeping a regimen for a time to change the body's "chemical make-up."

According to Daily Mail, the research was performed to 20 overweight adults, who lost two stone each in an eight-week diet of soups and powdered shakes. Later, the participants were held for another 44 weeks to track the new weight.

People who are undergoing a diet plan are more prone to being hungry and human's cells are depositing more calories into fat. Hence, persons who are maintaining a diet are often experiencing body repercussion that can result to accumulating more weight.

The researchers discovered that the hunger and the food intake of people are controlled by three molecules. After a person ate, two hormones, called GLP-1 and PYY, make a person feel full while hunger hormone Ghrelin wains the digested food and its nutrients infuse the bloodstream.

People who are experiencing obesity tend to balance these chemicals, which result to make them hungrier. This, too, can be the reason why they are having a hard time to follow a diet plan.

The Independent reported the human body is designed to be able to lose weight but, being on a diet is quite hard as food today comes handy. "It's a perfectly natural method to preserve life - if we don't eat, we die," the associate professor of biomedical sciences at the University of Copenhagen, Signe Sorensen Torekov told BBC Radio 4.

"Most studies show when you lose a lot of weight, then your body fights fiercely against it," Dr. Torekov continued. "But we actually found if you are able to keep your weight down for this longer period then it seems to adapt to this new set point."
