‘Iron Man 4’ Rumors, News & Updates: ‘Iron Man’ Sequel Not Happening? Robert Downey Jr. To Join ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Movie

Robert Downey Jr. aka Tony Stark of the "Iron Man" franchise recently revealed that there were no plans for the highly anticipated sequel, "Iron Man 4." But according to the latest reports, Downey Jr. will be joining Tom Holland in "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

Since "Iron Man" is one of the most popular franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many fans are hoping for "Iron Man 4." Unfortunately, the fourth installment of Stark's epic tale will not be in the works soon but Marvel seemed to have an interesting plan for Stark joining the upcoming "Spider-Man" standalone movie.

In a recent interview on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Robert Downey Jr. shared some exciting details about "Captain America: Civil War" and the future plans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Cinema Blend, the 50-year-old actor also addressed the rumors circulating about his "Iron Man" character Tony Stark mentoring Tom Holland's Peter Parker in "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

"Perhaps I will," Downey Jr. coyly said. "We don't have a contract yet."

Despite Downey Jr.'s open-ended response, not saying "no" could mean his possible appearance in "Spider-Man: Homecoming. Since there will be no "Iron Man 4" until 2020, avid Tony Stark fans would surely love seeing him hiring Peter Parker as an intern at Stark Industries, Movie Pilot notes.

Meanwhile, there are also rumors circulating that Robert Downey Jr. will be replaced by someone younger in "Iron Man 4." However, director Joe Russo stressed that it would be "impossible" to replace Downey Jr. as Iron Man if Marvel will decide to have a reboot.

"It's almost impossible to replace Robert, he's the biggest movie star in the world," Russo told Forbes. "One close up from Robert is worth another actor's entire performance, he's incredibly gifted and insanely talented. I think if and when he is done with the character I think you will find that Iron Man might disappear for a while."

As for Robert Downey Jr., the actor admitted during an interview with USA Today for a "Captain America: Civil War" set visit that "Iron Man 4" was "not in the card." He also emphasized that it would be great if there would be an "Iron Man 4."

"I don't think that's in the cards," the 50-year-old actor said, as per Entertainment Weekly. "In a way it's Cap 3 but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4. And then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes."

For now, "Iron Man" fans will be seeing Downey Jr. in "Captain America: Civil War" on May 6. He will also make an appearance in "Avengers: Infinity War" Part 1 and 2 on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 respectively, Vine Report reveals.
