Study Confirms Positive Effects Of Parental PDA On Children

Most children might be grossed out by the sight of their parents hugging or kissing in their presence, but it looks like mom and dad's public display of affection could have positive effects to their health. A new study reveals that parental PDA actually strengthens a child's health!

Asthma Symptoms Vs Parental PDA

The research (via QZ) gathered information from asthmatic children between 10 to 17 years old, who were instructed to keep a journal detailing their symptoms in a period of only 4 days. In addition to that, the kids were told to take note of how they felt whenever they saw their parents being affectionate with each other as well as their feelings when there was conflict between Mom and Dad.

The Positive Effects Of Parental PDA

The results of the study (via Parents) found that the children suffered less asthma symptoms or attacks whenever they detailed that they saw parental PDA. Study co-author Samuele Zilioli explained that seeing mom and dad being affectionate may have some positive effects on the kids.

"Parents should be aware that children respond emotionally not only to the direct interactions they have with their parents, but also to interactions their parents have between each other," Zilioli said. "In turn, these children's emotional responses can affect their health."

PDA Is Good, But Further Study Is Necessary

It is also important to note that the research found that the children did not report any asthma symptoms or attacks even when they noted a conflict between their parents. In addition to that, the study was only conducted during a short period of time and the long-term effects of parental PDA on children have not yet been confirmed.

Nevertheless, it is good to know that seeing mom and dad engage in PDA might actually have a positive effect on your kids' health. So keep kissing and hugging in front of the children. After all, nobody has actually died from sheer embarrassment.
